Products I Regret
I'm pretty sure we all have that shoebox full of products we bought at one point or another that just didn't work or weren't what we expected. Somehow though, we can't bring ourselves to throw it away so we just hoard it for the pretty packaging or simply no reason at all. C'mon we're all guilty of it, but it's just a fact of life. Not every foundation or lipstick can be a gem because that would ruin the fun of having to go shopping for something better, right? I'm constantly trying new products, and I typically test items out a couple times before I officially toss it in that no-go shoebox instead of just basing it on a first try. So, today, I've rounded up a few items that just did not work for me or did not live up to my expectations. Let's get started.
Ulta Matte Lip Creams
I'll start out with the biggest disappointment first to get the bad news out of the way. I'm basically a lipstick junkie and I have a true weakness for matte lips. I heard such great reviews on these lip creams and what better time to test them out than when Ulta had their buy 2, get 2 free promotion a couple weeks back. Thank goodness they did, too, because I would have been super upset if I had paid full price for these. I bought a nude shade in TENDER and a berry shade in STIRRING. These both have a doe foot applicator and apply more like paint than lip cream. They're extremely messy and never actually dried matte any time I tested them out. Not to mention they transferred onto everything. It's a shame because the colors are gorgeous. Bottom line, not impressed.
Maybelline Volum' Express Mega Plush Mascara
I'm a huge supporter of all things Maybelline. It's extremely rare that I'm not highly impressed with any of their products. This mascara, however, was one of those rare times. I'll start out with the positive though. The formula is good. Not amazing, but just as good as any other drugstore mascara out there. The wand is what ruins this product for me. The bristles are so large and spiky that it's very difficult to get to the root of your lashes and you can forget about a clean bottom lash application. Additionally, the wand itself tends to be a bit flexible which I found was difficult to coat my lashes with. I find this to be more of a lengthening mascara than a volumizing one.
Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation
I think everyone can agree that during summer months we all look for more lightweight coverage on our face. Because who wants to sweat with layers of foundation on, right? This foundation from Rimmel claims to be lightweight, matte, and not be heavy or greasy. Perfect for summer, so I decided to give it a try. This formula is matte, but it's thick like cake icing. It takes so much product just for one even layer on your face and doesn't blend the easiest. It never actually became that "your skin but better" feeling, rather just a mask on top of my skin.
Rimmel Provocalips 16 Hour Kissproof Lip Colour
The reviews on these lip stains are amazing and I was so excited to finally be able to purchase one from my Ulta after they were sold out for so long. I'll admit the staying power of these is probably unlike any other lip product I've ever tried. With that being said though, it's impossible to take off! I had to completely scrub at my lips with makeup remover which just added to the dryness these lip stains cause my lips to be. The colors are super pigmented, but the formula in both the color end and the clear topcoat end of the product are extremely tacky. Any time I tried to layer up the colors, I just ended up taking more away and it became streaky. I don't like putting a lipstick on and constantly being aware it's on my lips, but I couldn't help but be reminded every time I just talked with this on.
